Basically An Asset Stripping Operation
An old acquaintance of mine used to work at St Aubyn’s School in Rottingdean, a Prep School with a diverse, nurturing and educationally successful tradition dating all the way back to 1895.
Cothill Educational Trust took over St Aubyns in May 2012, purchasing it for £1, spent £½m refurbishing the buildings, and then did little to promote the school, increase pupil numbers and find a new headteacher when the previous one left.
Cothill Educational Trust informed parents that they were closing down the 118-year-old school just nine months later. So CET had acquired assets in the millions for just £½m input, and all under the guise of an Educational Trust coming in to save a struggling school.
“Cothill Educational Trust's plans for the 11-acre site of the former school have not been published. Its acquisition of the school and its site and its subsequent decision to close it are to be the subject of a formal complaint to the Charity Commission.” (Wikipedia)
All of the above was further confirmed when I came upon the following blog by a parent of children at the school, and part of the Parents Group that tried to save St Aubyn’s at the eleventh hour; http://www.andrewjeffrey.co.uk/blog.asp
